Rust - Should I be concerned?

that white stuff hanging off everything is road salt,,it's ugly ,, and that was early in December,,not even much snow on the ground yet,,

Well it's comforting to know that they can become a rusty mess and keep on trucking. That's all I am really concerned about!

I'm interested in hearing how that treatment holds up over time. I'm about to power wash the underside of my truck before giving it some kind of treatment, I just can't see me getting under there with the drill and wire wheel - you're hardcore, - or you hate yourself? How much does that stuff cost, and where do you get it? I still think the ole "hot oil treatment" where you pour the still warm [not hot] recently drained oil [so it will flow] into a small dedicated pump type sprayer works great, and gets into the tight spots. You need to park on a tarp to catch the drips but no crayon smell and an endless supply of free material. If you have a slight oil leak anywhere underneath, you'll notice nothing rusty in that area.

Ya I was going to do something similar to that Para - Just get under there with a drill / wirebrush and sandpaper if needed and start killing the rust. After seeing some of the vehicles here I am starting to have faith that mine isn't as bad as I thought haha. It's going to be a tedious time consuming task I know though. How long did it take you to do it? Did you paint your frame after you got rid of the rust or is that something like POR-15? I was thinking of using POR or some other "rust converter" / protector.

Every "rust converter" I've ever used always resumed rusting within a year or so. Maybe conditions are just worse here in the northeast - they use a lot of salt and who knows what else.

Healthy combo of both.

Wasn't too bad. Amsoil sells their metal protector for $7.25 a can and Fluid Film is similarly priced - $7-$10 a can. I ordered all of mine online.

It's tough to say how long the entire process took, because i spread it out over a few weekends. The powerwashing/blasting was one step, couple hours for that. Then grinding down and removing rust and sealing it all with the rust reformer took a while, I'd say a whole afternoon. Finally, the coating process was another couple hours.

My truck has no rust underneath. I oil spray it every year or two. Can use any oil, but I like this product. Cost $18 per gal, and I use 1/2 gal per spray.

How do you spray that oil? Do you warm it or thin it?

I spray it at room temp with this gun that I bought for $12
