Every website i go to only has options for 2wd explorers. Is their a difference between the 2wd and 4wd . the lug pattern is 5x4.5? And do 20s fit well on stock height?

sweet name, wakeboarding rules!!!

for the 2nd gen X's (which you have) 95-01, it doesnt matter if its 4wd or 2wd, however on the older ones the hub is too big for 4wd X's and it cant fit much unless you get it drilled out....

Lots of people have 20's here no rubbing, no problems, go for it!

I have a 96. I think 18s might look better on an X but I still have a while to think about it before i get the money

18s will ride better too. The less sidewall you have the harsher the ride is gonna be. IMO you need the benefit of sidewall cushioning on a truck like the Explorer.

No believe me, 20s would look much better! :D

hey wake,

I'm in the same boat, can't decide between 18's and 20's. all of my friends say 20's. I guess they want to ride in style!

i think im going with 18's. the pics ive seen of sports with them look just as sharp as those with the 20's. I also dont want to be slowed down by the 20's. Cheaper too.

Same thing is going on with me. My friends also tell me to go for the 20s. I like the 18s b/c they are about 500 bucks cheaper but you cant say your ridin on 20s. If you have any good websites with rims let me know.

Im not sure that you will be that slowed up by 20s, and if you have 20s, are you really gunna race anway. are you gunna wanna race with 18s, or do you wanna just ride in style.

you probably found the same sites I did. 4autostuff.net, truckxpressions.com. Does anyone know what a good size tire would be to fill out the wheelwell with 18s?

I keep going back and forth. The spun weight on the 20s is higher, taking a bite into acceleration. How much, I dont know. Id like to see tests on it. I like beating all my friends rice with my million pound truck, and would like to keep it that way. Some days I wanna just pimp it out, others I want to make it go go go. Just lies where I want to spend my money I guess. I wish I could have both....

I would recommend Steeda Ultra Lights, they are very light (obviously) and this is what my friend runs on his 00' 5.0 Mounty. Can't remember if their 17 or 18" but they are nice and unique as I have not seen another Explorer/Mounty with them.

The only rims I like that are 20's are Weld rims. Their 1 piece forged, extremely light, and both rare and gorgeous without that bling bling look. Their 20's are about 15-30lbs lighter per rim then competitors cast/chrome rims. And their new 22" series is about 30lbs or more per rim on average lighter then others cast/chrome rims.

I'm not into that whole bling bling look, and I would only go with Weld or maybe the Steeda Ultra Light 18's on the 03' 4.6 Mounty I'm getting b/c I don't care for all that extra crappy unsprung weight. And the truck is going to be mainly for performance (Kenne-Bell Twin Screw charger, full mandrel bent true dual exhaust ect ect). If I go with 20's it would be a Weld rim scince it would still be lighter then a lot of 17 or 18" rims from other makes. Even then I'm probably still going to get a set of 15" or 16" Weld Drag rims (like the ones you see on a lot of Stangs at the strip) and slicks or drag radials for the rear to use for the strip.

Weld is expensive though so I don't know if thats what you would want to spend or not?? Centerline also has a new series out of rims that are very light also, their not flashy and pretty smooth looking. Weld is still my choice though;)

Go with 20s, trust me, they don't slow you down that much, and besides, your rolling in an X, why try racing??? The only thing that may slow you down with the 20's is the car full of girls you'll pick up ;) jk, but def go with the dubs, especially on an Eddie--I think that the fender flares make wheels on EB's look smaller than wheels on XLT's (which sucks for me!!!)

The highschool that i go to everyone races and my v6 X can beat a lot of cars here. Civic's, 4runners, and small pickups like S10s. But only one person has dubs at the school and i am looking at the limited 286 20in. What u think of those?

They look good!! I think I saw them or some that looked like them on a Ex Sport somewhere.....Limiteds are good wheels, too, my sister has some 17" Limited 800s on her Probe and hasnt had any problems at all with them...post pics if ya get them---Later

man, just get some 20s, and get some that no one around you has..so your differnt..and who cares if you can win in a race or not anymore, your rolling 20s,,your gunna look pimp..

Of course I had to chime in here. Get the 20's and stop skimping. If you like the look of the 18's go for them! There is nothing wrong with a nice set of 18's. However, I can already tell you that if you get the 18's your not going to be happy! If you are wishy washy now, if you get 18's you will like them. But you know just a few months or even worse the first time you pull up to some one on "dub's" you will be dissapointed that you just didn't go for the 20's!

Beleve me I have had mine on for quite a while now and they are great! I have never slowed down, or even really done any driving any different than on my 16' factory wheels. The ride is fine! They ride better in my opinion, very sporty feel, you can feel the road a lot more. I would even go so far as to say that my 275/45-20" tires saved my ride on late night when a few dear darted out infont of me and I swerved to miss them I had that truck all over the road very hard G's and with out all the side wall flex and tire roll it stayed stuck to the ground and no roll over victom story here.

Oh yea, one more thing they look great!
