Does anyone have any rack designs or plans available? The only place I have to put my spare is on the roof so I need a rack. I was thinking of building one, but I want it to look good!

Does anyone have any pros or cons with the racks. I know I don't want one that bolts to the stock cross rails. I want it to bolt into the main rails.

Which is the most recommended? Which is the cheapest?

I have a surco rack that bolts to the main rails. I think its the cheapest one. I have my spare up there also. Make sure you tie it down though, I had my spare up there for a month or so without being tied down and it bent the hell out of the side rails from moving around up top so much.

I've got the surco rack too, I purchased the tire mounting kit from surco and it works great, very easy to install and has a hole on the mounting stud to put a lock, to slow down them dam theifs. :chug:

I bought a custom made rack from Blackout {an Ebay seller},he did a decent job,but the rack came un-painted,I found a powdercoating place and it came out pretty nice, got the light bar option up front for the 4 smaller lightforce lights !!

I gave him the measurements from center of track to center of track, and he welded on feet with mounting holes that matched the track's center.,I got ahold of someone to fab some stainless stock into making the low profile wide nuts using 1/4-20 thread pattern.I'm very peased with this,I also have it wired in a way with a small hith plug so I can unplug the lights in the rear of truck and completly take off the rack !!

I think I am going to design something myself. I am mostly after a tire carrier. I don't think I'm going to make a whole basket...basically just a base made from 1" square tubeing and maybe some tie down points in case I do strap something down. The tire will just be bolted down.
