I'm not 4x4 expert, but I do read a lot of ORA Mag.. Um, according to them, are you sure that that d44 will hold up to those 39's? You might want to go with something a bit stouter up front. Just my two cents, hell I prob. dont even know what im talking about.. lol l8r

With most of the data that is out there, you are 100% correct. MOST of the research supports a D44 (with upgraded shafts) being good up to about a 37" under harsh conditions. Anything bigger, especially under a heavier rig, requires a heavier duty axle.

But SO much depends on terrain traveled, style of driving, etc, etc, etc.

Would I run a 39" tire on a D44? Nope, but that is just me.

I agree with you Robb...but he might get away with those 39's on a D44 since he said he wasn't going to run it in mud or rocks so if thats the case i'd keep the front diff open to keep the stress level at a minimum. You could build the D44 up pretty strong, they have 33 spline ARB's but then you have to get the inner shafts custom made but it's pricey...believe me i've already checked it out  It's almost worth it to start building a D60 by the time you start emptying your bank account to build up a D44.

Put some Warn Chromolly shafts on their. Make sure you get the inners and outters. The 4x4 shop I work with have guys running 40's on a well built d44 with locker. Get some very good u-joints as well. Build it right and it will hold up to those 39's.

If your gonna get cro-mo shafts you might as well get the best. Superior axle shafts are the ONLY major mfg. that rolls their splines. Rolled splined are actually formed into the shafts and it is a very expensive process. All the other mfg's cut their splines which means they are taking off material resulting in a weaker shaft compared to one with cut splines. They also have a "memory" in which they will allow a certain amount of twist then return to normal. The other cro-mo shafts will twist but not return, now you have a very expensive and now damaged shaft.

awesome guys thanks a lot. now that i think of it i would rather have d60 front and rear. if anyone has anymore comments, keep um coming

well,i hate to dissapoint you guys who would rather have coils than leafs but im gonna go the easier way. just gonna get two sets of 6" lift springs from skyjacker and used them with soa. if im not mistaken the skyjacker 6" leaf packs are made to stay under the axle if used as a 6" lift... right, but i would have 12 inches if i soa... correct......... hit me with some more comments. and what steering should i go with. a friend told me if i get axles from an f250 then get the steering from that but what are part numbers? thanks for all your help
