safe to drill a hole in chassis above spare tire?

i'm looking to drill a 29/64 hole above my spare tire to mount a speaker box. is it safe to punch through the chassis here? its a 98 explorer eddie bauer edition.

Yes, assuming there is no wires/hoses/etc in the way.

The body is not the chassis on body on frame vehicles......

you should be fine, there aren't any wires/line running between the carpet, and the floor, so just make sure your not hitting anything on the underside of the ex.

just lower the spare so you don't have to worry about hitting it.

I had to drill a hole in the same spot on my 99 XLT for the factory tether hook for an booster seat. It was just sheet metal, nothing fancy.
