Hello all

I have a 97 Ex- Right hand drive Export model

Its really good fun and quite rare here in Devon

I have one small technical problem which perhaps someone may have the answer to.

the safety air bag indicator on the dashboard has started to flash - It has now got to the point where it flashes 3 times then 3 times again - this it repeats 4 or 5 times and then the light stays on.

Any ideas appreciated - cheers for now

It is flashing because a fault has been detected in the system. The 3 flashes, then pause, then three more represents a "33" code.

Hey Nigel
Welcome to the site from a fellow RHD owner. I'm not sure what the code means but you could see if a dealer knows and maybe some else on here knows. The most obvious thing to try is to disconnect the battery then check all the connections to the airbag system carefully and see if that helps.
PS if you wnat you can see my 98 x click the link in my sig. All the best.

Keep in mind that the following information is for a left hand drive, US Explorer. I'm not sure if that will have any impact on yours or not.

Pinpoint Test H: LFC 33/DTC B1933 — Passenger Side Air Bag Module Circuit High Resistance or Open

LFC 33/DTC B1933 — Passenger Side Air Bag Module Circuit High Resistance or Open

Normal Operation

Note:
The air bag module connector and the air bag diagnostic monitor harness connector have metal spring clips that act as shorting bars. These shorting bars are built into the plastic hardshell connectors. The shorting bars are designed to short circuit 607 (LB/O) to circuit 616 (PK/BK) when the connectors are not mated. Do not attempt to remove the air bag shorting bar and measure the resistance of the air bag module.

The shorting bar(s) in the air bag diagnostic monitor harness connector may be removed by removing the black spacer (locking wedge) from the connector. Use extreme caution when reinstalling the spacers to make sure they are installed correctly.

While the ignition switch (11572) is in the RUN position, the air bag diagnostic monitor (14B056) runs periodic checks on the resistance of the driver and passenger air bag module circuits.

Normal resistance from C232-5, circuit 607 (LB/O), (passenger side air bag module feed) to C232-4, circuit 616 (PK/BK), (passenger side air bag module return) is between 0.9 ohm and 1.2 ohms.

This resistance consists of the passenger side air bag module resistance (approximately 1.0 ohm) plus a small amount of resistance due to the wire itself, crimps, etc.

If the resistance across C232-5, circuit 607 (LB/O), and C232-4, circuit 616 (PK/BK), exceeds 3 ohms, the air bag diagnostic monitor will store in memory diagnostic trouble code (DTC) B1933 and flash lamp fault code (LFC) 33 on the air bag indicator.

If the high resistance is later repaired or otherwise falls into the normal range, DTC B1933 will be stored in memory.

Possible Causes

Excessive resistance across C232-5, circuit 607 (LB/O), and C232-4, circuit 616 (PK/BK), can be caused by:

An open circuit or high resistance in the wiring harness in either C232-5, circuit 607 (LB/O), or C232-4, circuit 616 (PK/BK).

An open circuit or high resistance in the passenger side air bag module (044A74). Do not attempt a direct resistance measurement of the air bag module. Follow the diagnostic procedure to determine if the air bag module resistance is higher than normal.
