I have heard that this is a fairly common problem as the gas tank is on the driver side. Would a bad shock cause it to sag like that? My thinking is not (though I might need to replace them anyways). Anyone have any insight into this? I suppose I could put a small block(spacer) to lift it up just on the drivers side? What is the smallest block available?

:hammer: My 97 also had a sagging problem on the drivers side but I thought it was because a really big person had owned it before me! It seems to be common to see all of the X's where Im from sagging in the rear end. Maybe its just a poor design on Fords part to put the axle above the spring. As for the shock absorbers being the problem, shocks do not effect ride height, they just dampen the bounce of the spring. If you wanted to try to fix the sagging spring you could go to NAPA and get set of helper springs but you have to remove the u-bolts to install them. I found a used set of "F" springs from a 99 X from Dons Automotive Mall for$ 149.99 to replace my monosprings and they work great!

Yep. Common problem.

You can get a new set of springs like hd did, which cures the problem right off, or my personal solution is to just swap out the springs left and right. If you still have sag after that, you can correct it with some WAR123 lift shackles from warrior products.

The swap puts the worn spring on the right side with no tank, and the springy spring on the left with all the weight. I found that just putting on lift shackles without swapping the springs causes the right to be so much higher than the left that it caused odd tire wear.

About the only other simple solution is air shocks- you can even hook em up seperately so you can put in more air on the left.

Of course, it really is just cosmetic and doesnt have any dramatic effect on anything, so it can just be left alone or make sure you load up the back so all the weight is on the right. :)

Since that is a common problem is that something that FORD would fix under warrenty? My warrenty is almost up and i am trying to find everything wrong with it and get it taken care of before i have to spend any money.

My drivers side was sagging since the first day i brought my truck home. But i always thought it was an optical illusion the way my driveway is.
