I was looking around and noticed that different sites have different specs on certain items. I was wondering if anybody knew what that is all about. Here's some examples on the JL Audio 13.5" w3v3 - 2 ohm subwoofer.

http://www.crutchfield.com/App/Product/Item/Main.aspx?g=520&i=13613W3V32&c=3&tp=111&avf=N

http://www.onlinecarstereo.com/CarAudio/ProductDetail.aspx?ProductID=19279

The big difference I noticed here is some say 400 watts and the others say 600 watts rms.

Do all of your research on the manufacturer's website. JL's site is wonderful.

JL actually changed how they rate their subs a little while ago. Both sites are correct. JL used to underrate by a good bit, now they rate like everyone else.

Also, if a site says a peak power for JL stuff, they made it up. JL doesn't really 'believe' in peak power. It's more a thermal rating at which the sub starts to want to break down. That's why they give you the little bar graph, to show you where they believe it shouldn't be powered and where they won't warranty it anymore.

I ordered the infinity reference 6822's for my fronts thinking they were 4 ohms. (My rear speakers are already 4 ohms) So I am now planning on sending back the 6822's and buying the 6812's (basically the 4 ohm version). Anyways I was looking around and this has had me really confused. Both Crutchfield and onlinecarstereo.com list the 6822's as 2 ohms, but sonicelectronix lists it as 4 ohms.

Anyways I ordered the 22's off sonic, and realized the mistake. I plan on sending them back and went ahead and ordered the 6812's off onlinecarstereo. But...... when I looked at my order status for my 6812's they charged me for the 12's but it appears as if they are sending me the 22's.... Anyways will the 6822's work so I may only have to send one pair back? Also does anybody know if either of those sites pay for shipping back even if they sent the wrong item. Thanks

that's what I was thinking.... then I called the guy a sonic and convinced me that he was holding the 6822 box in front of him and it had 4 ohms on it. My guess is that it is from like 07 or 06 and just has the same model number maybe. But just in case, is there a way to check actually how many ohms a speaker is?

yes, put a multimeter on ohms reading, then conect one end on one post, and the other on the other of the speaker. it will tell you what ohms the speaker is. They wouldn't change the ohm of the speaker each year, and if they did, they would change the model too. And if they had different ohms they usually put -2 or -4 or something.

BTW, I've ordered from them before and weren't too impressed. I ordered a 4 guage amp kit that said it was in stock, then over a week later I hadn't even gotten an e-mail. So i called them and they said that they were out of stock and weren't sure when it would be in. They said they were just waiting. I said that wasn't cool and I want my money back and he started offering me all kinds of stuff. He would pout me on hold and 'went into the warehouse' to check out what he had in stock, finally he gave me a good deal on my 0 guage kit. But I was still peeved cause even after that convo it took days to go out, and then almsot a week to get to me. I know I won't do business with them again.

In case you guys were wondering, Infinity DID change to 4 ohm this year, but IDK if the model numbers changed. So, it IS possible you're getting the 4 ohm Kappas, but IDK if they're even on the market yet.

He was looking at the referenece series though, did they change those ones too?

Actually, lookign at the site, it does say 'car audio 2008' on the page. Not sure.

Ah, hell, I was thinking Kappas. IDK if they've even released the changes for the Ref series yet. Wait, nevermind. I see they changed the Ref's to 2 ohm, not the Kappa's to 4.

okay so they are 2 ohms, and even though my rears are 4 ohms it's all good. They will just be getting a little bit more power. Just finished installing them and they sound awsome.

Nice, glad it all ended up working ok for ya.
