Sand DUNE Offroading 31St AUG. ATTN: MICHIGAN PEOPLE

Hey, Travis and I have been planning on heading up to Michigan on Friday the 31st of August. We are going to go offroading in the Sand Dunes up there. Its a lot of fun and any vehicle will be able to make it around up there. The trails aren't that hardcore, and there are some pretty big hills and water pits. Its very fun. You must buy a State Park Daily pass for like $4 bucks and a 2001 ORV (Offroad Vehicle Permit) for $20. Then you must buy a flag for $20 bucks and your set to go in the dunes. Its a lot of fun and there are no rules really. Anyways, would any of you guys be interested? It was going to be us originally. (I am meeting up with Travis up there) Anyone can caravan up there with me. Hopefully this notice is good for anyone to get time off of work. Give me some feedback...

Go to silverlakebuggyrentals.com and check out directions. Its near ludington in MI which is about 220 mi away. It will take 3-4 hrs to head up there

we will most likely meet at the best western parking lot at noon, wait til 1 for everyone and head to the dunes from there

Hmmm... I think I can cram it into my schedule. What are the details on where we would meet, etc. I would plan on camping in a local campground. Just tell me where!! It'll be me, a ranger, and oh no, a J**P!.

Are you guys planning on doing mainly sand dunes, or the trails there? My friends and I are more interested in the trails bc of the damage the sand can cause, plus we think trails are more challenging. Let me know the plans though, I'm definetly interested

I have been in the dunes, but where are these trails that you guys are talking about? I've never heard anything about them.

ok let me talk to travis and have him post here. maybe a little sand and some trails. just curious? travis says sand cant really do damage because everything is sealed up. how does it do damage?

Also, most likely we will meet at the sillver lake best western up there and head out from there.

sethro, would you come with us?

Sure, the things like trans are sealed up and stuff, but sand can kill brakes in a hurry. Intake can become a mess. Basically anything that has joints is the suspension can get sand in them. I just hope it's not windy. There's nothing like a gusty sand-blast on the paint and chrome. Maybe I'm making it sound worse that in is, but in any case, I'de rather be on the trails.

I'll have to see what the plans are. I forgot that was the holiday weekend. Aren't the trails going to be smotthered with people?

ya its going to be pretty darn packed. actually on the friday i dont think you need a ticket, its saturdays on sundays when you must pick up a ticket to get into the park at a certain time. anyways i really want to do this!

I may be up there that weekend, but I think I am going to wait until the following weekend, I think it might get too packed for me.

yes, definetly an interest, but I still don't know. Chances are I'll end up at my cabin in Alpena before I'll be at the dunes, but that might change.
