Thanks for the replies. What would SPV stand for by chance? While my brother is the mechanic of the family, I know enough to change my oil, rotate the tires, and tinker a bit, but I'm not familiar with terminology. Now, ask me something about a computer, and I'll write you a novel!
On a side note, and I guess I could start a new thread for this, but the reason I had the tire off in the first place was that I was cleaning the automatic hubs. The other day I was stuck, and had the 4 wheel drive engaged. I've had the truck for about 3 months, and have been using four wheel drive for the last 2 months on the roads just fine. While stuck, I tried "rocking" the truck back and forth to get myself out, an then I tried to go forward, and the truck started "shuddering" and I could really feel it underneath the drivers side; truck wouldn't move at all, but sort of lurched ahead a little at a time. It almost seemed like something was binding by the wheels/brakes. Did a little research, and found out that cleaning the hubs might help. So, I took them off and they were pretty caked with grease, so I cleaned them up nice and put them back on (after applying a little, new grease, of course), and now there is no more noticeable shuddering, however when I accelerate from a dead stop, there is a feeling almost like there is something slipping or trying to catch by the wheels, and when I hit 25-30 MPH, it finally grabs and I can feel the truck "stiffen" and feel that the four wheel drive is working. If I slow down to a stop, say at a stop light, and then go, same story. Any ideas on what that could be? Easy answer is the hubs, so unless there are any other ideas, I'll be bidding on a pair of the rebuilt hubs from "that guy" on Ebay (I know most will say go with manual hubs, but with my Ranger at 130k, I would think a "new" set of hubs would outlast the truck). Thanks for the help, guys!
