If anyone is interested in reading CEL codes, before buying a scantool, check this site: www.obddiagnostics.com

This site has the programming to download and put into a laptop for free, and the adapter to connect your dataport to the laptop is $85. It's cheaper than most scantools that I know of, and this one will work on any vehicle regardless of make or model.

I have it myself and it works great.

The guy who sells these is decent enough but it refused to work with my 96 and laptop. Bought an AutoXray instead!

I've used that software, as far as laptop based software goes I thought Alex Peper's unit was better. www.obd-2.com

Downside is these programs read engine only. So far, I'm loving my DiagTek. Reads so much more than engine stuff, but it works on Fords only.

www.autotap.com

this one is a bit pricey but it works great.

Works phenomilly with my 97

I have been wondering who had the best software and setup for a laptop. I do not want to spend huge bucks for one of these. For those who have used some of the less expensive ones, did you feel like you have been ripped off or got your moneys worth?

TIA

Can someone recommend a scanner for pre OBD-II Explorers. I have a 95 Limited.

thanks
