Ok Guys. My engine is making a loud screaming noise and the more I get into the pedal the louder it gets. All my friends say my car sounds like a jet engine. I know my fan clutch is bad but don't think that would make that much noise. Also have been told it can be my tensioner. Belt is pretty new. Please help, I need to get home and its making to much noise and does not sound good.

It could be the tensioner. Does it do it at idle as well? If I were you, I'd try to get a stethascope and try and listen in on the tensioners, idle pulleys, and all that good stuff and see what could possibly be making the noise.

Take off your drive belt and start the engine. Noise gone? If yes, then you've narrowed it down to the fan clutch or the tensioner. Both simple replacements.

Alright guys. Going to start tearing at it today and figure what it can be.

Ok guys. Went out today in the light and played with my car. I pretty much figured out the exact noise is coming for the Fan clutch. Anyone have directions to replace it. Please Help, I need get home!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well ordered the fan clutch today guys. Talked to my uncle who is a service manager for Chevy but use to be for Ford. Said it is an easy fix but did not have directions. Anyone have directions?? I need get this in.

hey if you do a search on fan clutches tons of people have had problems w/ their cooling fan throughout the couple of yrs. ive been reading these forums...
alot of people have changed their fans due to cracking never had the problem w/ my x's but seems common even those threads might be usefull to you just pay attention to the threading. some of the threads you will encounter may be reverse like a toilet. to keep from operation loosening them.
you may need the tool they make for it too..

pushing on the door that says pull are we :D

1. Remove the Drive Belt.

2. Remove the screws that secure the fan shroud to the radiator.

3. Push the shroud back toward the engine to allow you access to the fan pulley assembly.

4. Using a strap wrench, hold the fan pulley and use a large adjustable wrench to unscrew the large nut in the front middle of the fan clutch. (Note: There is a special wrench set available at many auto parts stores that makes this a simpler task.)

5. Lift the fan AND the shroud out together.

6. Remove the bolts that hold the fan to the clutch.

It should not be that difficult to remove the center bolt. If you are having a lot of trouble it would probablt be to your benefit to get to Autozone or Advance Auto and get the fan removal kit that contains 2 wrenches, the most important being the large one that goes behind the pulley, holding it stationary so that you can exert the force required the break loose the center nut (standard right hand thread). This wrench does what I recommended the strap wrench for. WD-40 is noce, but unless you get it behind the pulley, it will do little to help you. :(

Why not just install an electric fan. I did this to mine and got a 3 mpg increase. Well worth the investment IMO.

Yea, I already got the part and did not feel like dropping more money. We tried so hard to ge tthe bolt loose but can't. I am at school without all my tools, so I a garage going do it for me. It sucks but someones your just in a bad place.
