This could be the brakes what I was thinking, that maybe the metel noise maker is on the rotor. When I start to roll without having the brakes on I can hear a screeching sound coming from the back. I know I need new brakes cause they squeek when I put on the brakes. Wanted to make sure this isnt the rear end though?

THanks
Dustin

As far as i know the brake shoes in the rear dont have a "squealer" on them. chances are 2 things yoru brake shoes have worn through or you have a bearing that has gone dry. either way i wouldnt wait to check it out and fix it.

Do you use your parking brake on a regular basis? Did you use it recently before the squealing started? It's possible the pads for the parking brake are stuck, or causing the squealing.

The parking brake doesnt work at all. It has no problem rolling so I dont think thats stuck on. I'm going to pull a wheel off today. It wasnt doing it today. Sounds like it might be coming from the front but its hard to tell.

Thanks
Dustin

oh yes the backs do have the rattle chip. I know i drove with it for almost a week was the most annoying sound in the world. Made me want to drive with the brakes slightly applied just to keep the rattle chip silent. If you hit the brakes and the sound goes away then its your brakes. And if your brakes give a different squeel when you hit the brakes, just get a better pad next time. Cheap pads tend to make some noise and alot of brake dust, just the type of material they use.

I had the exact same problem!!!! I bought new brake pads and rotors for the back tires. I pretty much fried my old brake pads lol. I took off one of the calipers and one brake pad actually fell off.
