I can't use my Sniper SF on it and thought about getting an Xcal to try and help the crappy shifts out. Is it a huge difference? I HATE the way it shifts, it may also need the solenoid pack but I don't get any flashing OD lights.

It made a huge difference on my mountaineer, If you want an x-cal buy one from James (jah81592 here on the forum) or visit his website www.hensonperformance.com he's tuned a lot of the explorers on this site and everyone has been very happy with his tunes and great customer service, me included.

i just started tuning the 05 XLT and ill tell u, the Xcal made the transmission shifts nearly INSTANT. im just tweaking the drive by wire issue with it now.. WELL worth the $

guys SERIOUSLY get an Xcal3, its an amazing little toy. the truck feels amazing! i have yet to go for the "economy" tune, because i cant keep my foot out of the thing..

!

the xCal3 is a standard unit. on James' site it's $389.

What exactly did you change to make the 5r55 shift good? I have been trying to get the shifts better on mine, but no luck (2003 Mountaineer). I have the SCT Pro Racer package and have changed the Target Slip Time, Clutch Fill Time, and turned off the Torque Reduction.

1-2 shifts OK

2-3 shifts OK

3-4 This shift overlaps like its in neutral and then eventually goes into 4th.

Does anybody have any numbers in regards to horsepower gains? I didn't see anything on their website...

not sure of the exact numbers but i just tuned mine this week with an X3 and there is a noticable difference and it does firm the shifts. talk to james henson its a gr8 deal the X3 and 3 custom tunes for 389

my thought was that one of guys asked for approximate gains before the purchase....

I was wondering what it would do with the V8??? Could always use a few extra horses....

i dont know the HP gains, but the improvement in driveability and transmission shifting is WELL worth the price

dunno exactly how much but you do gain hp and torque especially if u get a 93 octane tune
