My ARC in my 98 Limited has issues. I bought a set of the Monroe non-electric air shocks, since the originals are nice and rusted. Friday, Hoops is going on a lift and the search for whatever air leak this thing has will hopefully be found. My main issue, however is the very noisy compressor. I had 2 Lincolns and yeah, you could hear the compressor, but not to the point where the gas station guy was arguing with me to turn my engine off Sunday, lol.

Is the compressor shot or are there isolators similar to the air box on most Ford intakes? I would love to just simply crawl under my X and look, but I had brain surgery and I can' work on my truck anymore =(

Just for my own curiosity...how will the system know how high to lift/lower the truck if the shocks are no longer electric...or does the system use sensors like Lincolns?

ok, I figured that part out. I had an XLT last time and no owner's manual right now, so I figure that the switch that controlled my 4WD in the XLT controls the suspension in the ARC equipped Limited, no?

ok, I'm looking at my post and it looks a little, well WTF, i guess.

I just wanna know why my compressor is so noisy and is there a way to quiet it down if it is now on the way out.

Yeah its probably on its way out if its that noisy. An air ride compressor sounds just a bit louder than a fridge running. But you can turn off the ARC, there's a switch in the back, I think near the jack storage space.

yeah, i keep it off most of the time, but with the leak, it bottoms out and rides horribly, so every now and then i hafta turn it back on...it's quite embarrassing lol...thanks for the info. i guess i'll get another one. geez this truck is costing me so much at once. oh well. i can't complain. it has a lot of miles (not for it's age) and runs like a champ....

next stop, fix the climate control

New compressor and shocks seemed to do the trick. Pump is nice and reasonably quiet and the shocks feel pretty good. Maybe I will play with the sensor height to get a little more lift in the rear, but other than that, I'm satisfied. Man, I hope (beyond having to do a front cover service (timing set, water pump, stat, blah blah blah) I don't hafta spend the rest of my pension keeping this thing running, it's been so reliable for a, 11 year old with 140 on the clock. I guess I just addressed all of the things my poor X had neglected over the years. It really is a good truck.
