My seatbelts are getting closed in my doors, and it's really pissing me off. The retract mechanism must be old huh? Cause they don't retract at all, just hang there. How do I go about fixing this???

It did that in my 95 and in my 2001...go figure...my new tan seatbelts in the rear seats are all greasy already from being slammed in the doors

Mine does it too. There was another thread on it a while ago.

Have you tried pulling the belt ALL the way out, until it stops, and slowly releasing it back ito the mechanism? Sometimes that works....

Go to the Junkyard and get one for about 5 bux. And all your problems are solved

I wouldn't reccomend that, as a seatbelt retractor is a "one time emergency use" thing, and any in a junkyard are likely to be very unsafe....The used mechanism can jam up in an accident, or worse yet, niot work at all:(

In fact, a proper auto wrecker wont even sell you one for liability reasons. One of the local wreckers here said they could not sell us a seatbelt bolt, but if we wanted to take them out of the vehicle, they didn't care. It saves their ass if the bolt fails, as they never Sold you the part:D

Crankcase
I agree completely DO NOT fit secondhand seatbelts only NEW ones. They save many lives even yours oneday but only if they work correctly. Here in the UK the vehicle would fail the annual test if the belts don't work. Safety is the key lets keep it that way.:D

Silicone spray

Try it! Works wonders, just pull the belt out fully and spray a little on the sides of the roll and the.. the..damn what du you call the things that get the belt in the correct position?? it usually works and then pull it a few times (and wipe it off) use the one you can get in a "Dive/scuba stores" it's the fine stuff...

Hmmmmm I've never heard of that....

Dogfriend- thanks for the link. that thread didn't come up with the search I did on this.

I might take apart the assembly Wednesday morning (is when I'm finishing up my stuff on my truck), and see if I can't come up with anything and let you guys know.
