Our 2008 Explorer has the seat memory option. Sometimes, when driving the car, the seat will spontaneously move out of the memorized position. This seems to be related to the position of the ignition key in the ignition cylinder - if I wiggle the key in the cylinder, it causes the seat to move.

Does this require replacement of the ignition cylinder? Thanks.

When you wiggle the ignition Key do you also observe that the interior lights come on?

you may need to replace the ignition switch, not the lock where the key goes, here is a thread explaining what you need to do in order to fix this!

Thank you for the response and the link.

Coincidentally, I was trying to disable the easy access feature. I figured out how to do that, and the seat no longer moves when I wiggle the key in the cylinder.

We just bought this Explorer about two months ago. My wife is the primary driver, and I had not noticed the dome light coming on. I checked tonight and the dome light does indeed come on when I wiggle the key, so I will likely replace the part described in the link.

Thanks again.

Joe

My pleasure Joe, This is a pretty common issue with these Explorers. There are a few quirks with them but I have really enjoyed my Explorer! If you have a chance read some of the older post you can learn so much from them!
