Is there any way to kill, maim, disable, or destroy the extremely annoying seatbelt warning bell in the '03 Explorer? I wear my belt religiously, but the warning bell harrasses me endlessly if I'm just moving the vehicle around my driveway, etc. I HATE it. I'd shoot it, but I can't even find the source.

i believe there is a way,

in my uncles new truck he just put the seatbelt around the back of the chair and latched it :)

there is a way, i have seen it disscussed on this board before, try searching "seatbelt chime" or something. it involves buckleing and unbuckleing it multiple times

i guess you will have to just run a search on it and see what comes up

Take the 2 wires running to the latch and splice them together.

Or grab a "male" end from the junkyard and shove it in the "female" end. :)

hey that'll work!

the way you said that has sooooooo many bad connataions(sp?) but its hilarious

Thanks for all the input. I did a search as recommended and did find some good recommendations. The main one involves a very elaborate combination of buckling/un-buckling while the key is on. I think you also have to be standing on your head while doing it. I intend to give that a try. If that doesn't work, I'll try the "latch wire splicing" option that Alec recommended. If that doesn't work, I have a shotgun and will just start blasting anything under the dash that looks like a chime.

You won't hate it when a cop pulls you over "for not wearing your seatbelt" and you have definitive proof that you were wearing your seatbelt. (who would put up with that annoyance?).

I sure helped me convince a cop that I was indeed wearing my seatbelt (crazy, overzealous Texas state patrol!) =)

i here the fine for not wearing a seatbelt is up to 80 bucks now!

thats friggin ridiculous!

disable seatbelt chime

I don't know about the newer models, but on the 1999 and prior you can disable the chime. There is a plug where the seatbelt attaches to the floor behind the seat. It may be tucked under the rug. Follow the 2 wires coming out of the plastic seatbelt cover. Just disconnect that plug and no more noise.
The switch in the buckle is closed when there is no belt inserted. when you insert the buckle you open the switch. By disconnecting the plug at the base of the belt you are opening the circuit as if the belt was connected.
