- 1994 Ranger X-Cab 4WD 4.0
I have a 1994 Ranger 4X4 Ext Cab 4.0. The pitman arm was a pita to get off because of the twin I-beam suspension being in the way, but I finally got it removed along with the metal dust cover, c-clip and the first seal. Now I'm wondering if I need to remove the other two seal(s) because fluid is blowing passed those two too. I can't remove the box (siezed and some hammerhead cranked down on it last time I guess, bolt head is stripped) and trying to blowout the seals using the pressure method was fruitless. I wish I had pictures, but the next seal to be removed looks like a two concentric pieces of thin steal ring with numbers on one. The kit I got has two steel washers and two seal plus a c-clip for the replacement. I got the kit from O'Reillys. I know how the lower seal needs to be installed with the spring upwards, but I'm not sure how the other seal(s) go in.
Here's the kit. I think they are discontinuing this kit. Mine is a powercraft brand but it has the same parts as this Gates.

Also, I don't intend on pulling the top cover and replacing that seal if I don't have to, so I need input on how to remove the remianing seals with the sector shaft in place. I saw where some folks used long screws and drilles holes into the seal(s) and pryed them out that way.
Thank you for any and all input.
