I'm thinkin 500 watts is the peak wattage because of the size of the woofer. If you look it doesn't seem to be that beefy compared to Rockfords or Lightning Audio stuff.

I just wonder what kinda cubic feet of space that thing takes.

clarion doesnt make that sub anymore. it does suck.

BUT..
if you want a big subwoofer that will hit really hard, chack out the Audiobahn AWT34.
it's a 34" titanium subwoofer. the AWT34 handles 5000 watts RMS. and you can fit them in cars. i installed one in a van about a year and a half ago. it hit frquencies so low that it felt like the ground was shaking.

we used two 2400 watt amps. one to each voice coil.
