For Sale Sell it? Or.. fix it?

I payed half that much for my 99 , but since you did pay that much , i would keep it and try to fix it , thats low miles for a 2000 model , i just sold a chevy full size conversion van for 1100 cash , it was a 96 with 228k miles , they drove it home 45 miles away and it has been sitting for 5 years off and on

Thats the problem, I dont want to put about another 1000 bucks in it and see if it wants to work or not :P I love this truck but Idk :( but thats crazy man.

Too bad I cant get it here.
All those rust free parts. I'm drueling.

You have valve not seating/burnt, or cracked head, or possible blown head gasket.
Not really a big deal to fix. If that were a 4x4, Id drive down, swap a few parts off mine to yours, and drive yours back after having my current rusty one towed away.

Seriously, that looks like a nice vehicle.

Well either way your go you going to loose money , if you sell as is , or put money into and sell it and try to get what you can , i'm not about screwing people over , but in your condition with the mileage i would stay with fixing and keeping

i dumped about 2k or more into my 2000 sport .why? because i love that sport .and i know what i have already .in the past 2 years i have replaced
water pump
radiator
hoses
belt
head gaskets
ball joints
timing cover gaskets
timing gears and all parts under that cover
rad cap
plugs
wires
trans (oh man that was another 850.00)so i`m in way more than 2k .
i mean you name it i darn near done it .i got as much in my sport as what its worth .but its worth much more to me .its part of the family for 9 years now .
it was still cheaper to keep her and do the repairs than to try and buy one that you know nothing about only to have the same problems in short order .

you got a good looking suv there with the better engine .try the seafoam you might get a good surprise .

if not then fix it ,it will surely cost more to replace it .

mine has 151,000 on it now and i suspect i will get over 200k easy so it was worth it to me to keep her going .

i think you could possibly get 1,500 for it if you get it running better .if not most people dont want a project these days .they want that gas n go factor .

good luck with it .

The market for vehicles with bad engines is so small it would be hard to get anyone to even come look at IMO. And when you do get someone they want o give you peanuts for it ?

Any car you buy can cost you $1000 right now, especially older used cars you know nothing about. I mean a decent set of tires is $600 nowemdays, what do those last ? 3 years maybe 5 if you dont go many miles a year ?
I doubt seafoam will do anything to restore 100 pounds of compression to the number 1 jug, if the strong as a mutha valve spring aint doing it, nothing short of fixing it properly will.

For $800 to 1000 what is "the guy" going to do to fix it ? Carbon building up ? C'mon. If you cant diagnose the problem you might want to get another opinion from another mechanic.

How do you feel about getting dirty and pulling the head yourself? Do you know someone that could help you with it? These motors are pretty straight forward. You don't have to worry about timing when changing a head.

I'm with Joe. Fixing is still way cheaper than replacing. Whats a monthly payment on a new(er) vehicle? $300.00/month? $600??

it is 4x4 lol

You have to fix it.

That thing is worth an easy $4000.00 here.
no rust on the under carriage?
I'm flying with the family to Disney World next week. I'm tempted to buy it off you and limp it home. Seriously, someone that knows these trucks would steal it from you.

A bit of a drive between you and Orlando. Hmmm

I would already be shopping for a used engine

Either repair or swap, lots of used engines and parts out there. A rust free truck, sign me up! These trucks are so easy and cheap to keep running, someone will give you 2k for that, an engine swap would be about 1k, and scrap the old engine for parts.

Yes, many options.
Having lived head swaps on the ohv, I'd just change out the head. Cost $400.00 in parts(My own labour), and the motor wouldn't have to leave the truck.

You really don't want to dump this thing. The next vehicle you get will most likely have issues also.

I just put it on craigslist for 1400 lol boy am I getting emails like crazyy haha :p And its about a 3 hour drive from here to orlando

Im not surprised. If you dont get rid of it, let me know and I'll check in to what it would cost to have it shipped to the border. It just doesn't make sense to limp a veicle all that way.

I think you will make out ok on it though.
