I have a 99' ford explorer which needs some work aka a front end alignment, maybe tranny or drive train, and has a rough idle. Its a great truck other than that i love it it has a decent sound system well it is a head turner but with sound systems im a hard critic and want the best of the best talking 3000 watt subs and earsplitting components pushin150 watts rms.. but off track.. Im trying to sell it now for 2300 with out the sound system but its not moving with the gas prices and economy. But im a college student freshman actually and i would love to find a way to keep it but i cant decide if i should keep it and fix then trick it out or sell it. input would help alot any advise or questions plz give. ohh and my dads taking pistures for me tommarow so ill have them in a couple days and anyone interested in buying it just let me know ill send you pictures.

Make sure you take english/grammer while you're in school.

Sell the truck, get a cheap econo. car to drive while you're in school.

Get good grades, get a nice paying job, buy yourself a new truck!

Problem solved.

wow, that was slightly rude man. Sorry for not walking over a forum post with a fine tooth comb. I do appreciate the input though.

it was pretty rude. I am a horrible typerer sometimes or I just dont care ot go bakc and re-read and fix. This isnt school and I wouldnt expect to be "graded" on my posts

I have a mom, ya know

then again...new jersey....says it all (I can say that as I was born there and lived there from ages 8-16)

I say keep it instead of spending money on getting another vehicle instead. Especially if you will end up having to make payments on another vehicle. If you try to sell it in this economy situation you won't get out of it what it's worth. Spend some of the money you were going to spend actually tricking it out on modding it to improve the gas mileage. There are is a lot that the manufactures don't do that can be improved upon to get better mileage. That way you have a capable vehicle in most conditions that also gets decent mileage. And it's large enough you can move something if you need to, or take a few people with you comfortably.

Keep it

You need to find out what is wrong with the truck first. Pay someone to do a complete diagnostic and let you know what needs to be fixed now and what can be put off.

Front end rebuild kits are less than $200, engine tune up about the same, and tranny could just need a fluid and filter.

Get a tune up, plugs, wires, fuel filter, oil change, tranny filter and gasket. Inspect the boots of the cv shafts, if you have AWD/4WD inspect the u joints for signs of excess wear/failure. (Usually grasping the shafts and giving them a few shakes should alert you to any problems) There will be very little give if they are in good condition. Alignment's are cheap though.

Just think if you were to sell it and buy another car/truck you never know what you may end up with. The engine could blow after you get it.
