Hey guys, I have a new lock right I want to install in my 8.8. It has 4.56 gears which means it is a thick ring gear. I have removed the carrier from the axle and removed the ring gear to get the cross pin out. Now I don not know how I can get it all back together with the thick ring gear. Does anyone know the sequence of install to get all this together with the cross pin and thick ring gear?

How did you get the ring gear off with out pulling the pin so the shafts would come out? On most 8.8s with 4.56s, the teeth where the pin goes in must be machined slightly so the pin will go in. I installed a set and I ground off a small part of 2 gears to get the pin in.

Basically, put the ring gear back on, put the carrier in (torque the Ring Gear to specs, and the bearing caps to specs) put the lockright together inside the carrier, slide in the shafts and squeeze the c-clips in between the slots that the lockright has to slide in the c-clips, slide in the pin.

Do you know what the torque spec is on the caps and the ring gear are?

I don't know off the top of my head. But I know where to find it. Go to ringpinion.com for installation instructions. Go to technical help and the yukon gear instructions. Last page is torque specs. Look under r/g torque for the 8.8 and Bearing Cap torque for the 8.8. I would look it up for you, but I am on a ghetto connection.

Yup. The cross pin is notched so that when it is rotated 90* from normal you can push in the axle and remove or insall the c-clip. While its not a necessity with 4.56, with 4.88's you'd have to remove a few teeth completely to get the cross pin out with the ring gear in place.

I have a notched cross pin but it is not hardened. So you can't use it with the lock right. I was told that you don't need a notched pin with the lock right because the side couplers are a different height than a stock side gear.
