I have 92 4*4. I have put less than 1000 miles on it. I love it but it seems to have aquired a serious problem quickly.

I noticed on my steep driveway some grinding of {the front brakes}? Other than that the brakes seemed just fine

Until last night. I had it out and the front end was making serious grinding noises at each brake. Also I could hear the rubbing while driving.

From reading here I am guessing pads are toast and probably rotors now also after driving @ 30 miles with the rubbing/grinding. Maybe calipers also.

Please let me know what you think. It just seems to be both side at once, which suprises me perhaps I am not hearing right but I think I am.

Also an unrelated problem my interior lights were starting to stay on AND the CHIMING .... plus stereo was sometimes on and sometimes not. I had to pull the fuse to stop the chiming and shut off the lights so now of course no interior lights or music. Any input here is apprecuited also.

I am considering calling a mobile mechanic in my area as I don't want to make things any worse. << Input again please

Thanks so much for your help
Jan

Brakes, wheel bearings, and hubs can all contribute to a rotational grinding noise from the front end. In any case you will need to remove the wheels and inspect the brakes and rotors for any sign of damage or worn pads. You should also remove the hubs and inspect the wheel bearings..

Take a peek at the Brake diary thread for lots of information and pictures in performing this service.

As for the door ajar chime you should check the door plunger pins at each door to ensure the move freely (in/out).. Start with the driver's door as it gets the most use it is the most common pin to go.

its a 92. since you just got it and have no idea of its history, then you should change out the rotors and pads anyway. just make sure you dont have a seized up caliper but they are cheap and easy to replaced too. better to be safe than sorry!

Thank You for your help I think I will try the mobile mechanic if its and everything job I don't have the proper tools to fix it.

I checked the door and it is the driver side one it seems broke it does have the spring action like the others do.
I see the nut there so i am assuming it is an easy fix.
Thanks Again,
Jan

Does anyone have access to alldata.com

And could they please tell me the time noted for front end brake job.
Including new rotors & pads. Probably a little caliper maintenance.

I have a mobile mechanic coming by and I want to have a little knowledge so i do not get ripped off

Thank You
J
