Hi to all.

I'm a newbie the form looking for some help. I can't get my serpentine belt back on the tensioner for a 1996 Ford Explorer. I get the belt almost all the way but when I've tried to install it around the tensioner, it won't fit around the tensioner. Any help would be most appreciated.

I would do the alternator or AC compressor last. (whatever is on top) It's hard to get the tensioner pulled far enough AND loop the belt at the same time.

EDIT: make sure that the new belt and the old belt are close in size. You could have the wrong belt.

Put it around the compressor last. Remember you have to relieve the tension on the tensioner to get enough slack to get the belt on.

I always put the belt on the idler pulley last.

Good luck ....

I either put it on the idler pulley or the water pump pulley last. They usually don't have the v-grooves or run around the back-side of the belt. It makes it easier to slide on that way.

The only pulley on my SOHC w/o grooves is the idler pulley.
