As it's a new year I'm starting to think about servicing my Explorer for the first time (bought Sept.last. 112k miles). What lubes are be recommended and any further comments would be appreciated.

Well I use Mobil 1 synthetic in mine. Genuine motorcraft oil filter. Clean the K&N air filter. Grease the new front ball joints. Free up the semi seized hand brake mechanism (rarely used). Check all the pipes for condition and brake pad thickness. I usually flush out the rad system once a year too.

I use Halfords Full Synthetic and have done for the last 4 years. I always use a Motorcraft oil filter. The engine never needs topping up between changes so I think it is a good oil to use. [ Watch out for Halfords offers on their oil. I wait for buy one get one free at £29.99].
