I have a 2000 Sport with auto transfer case and 4.0 SOHC and 4.10 rear, with 147K miles. It's been icy here, so I initially laid this off to slipping, then catching traction, but it has now started to occur on dry ground (not offroad). This occurs during steady throttle cruie, not while accelerating or slowing.
Anyway, it feels as if the power to the rear end stops for a second, then is quickly restored. I'm starting to think that the chain (?) in the transfer case is skipping a link every once in a while-there is no consistent time frame for the slip, but it's starting to occur more frequently.
Does this sound like a transfer case? and is it a big deal to fix?
Nobody interested? I'm a bit worried...
