Shake in car coming from Engine

Try resetting your idle strategy. Do you have a haynes manual? You can try and clean the IAC and clean the maf. You can also try seafoam. All of those things there are threads on here so just search.

My 97 idles pretty smooth at 550rpms, it ever so slightly will studder here and there which you feel but for the most part it's smooth.

As far as the roads being tough you can try to change the shocks to a softer shock and see if that helps (Rancho 9000s are popular among board members), maybe air down your tires a little bit. Check your tire pressure and see where it's at.

Read up on aldives threads about what he's done to his truck, I'm sure his engine idle's smooth as silk. There is no need to "live" with it, and it's not party of the territory. I've driven and ridden in many smooth running trucks.

All four wheels are 35 PSI

Ask Blueka for a comparison

Blueka has both of these vehicles... May some input from the Brit might help...

Lol... Thanks donner, my mondeo's actually a mk1 2.0 4x4... I wish it was the ST220..

The rough idle could be many things, I think mine's caused by the HEGO sensor on the passenger (us driver's side) bank..

I've also got a massive flat spot at times, where you plant your foot and nothing happens at all, you have to plant your foot a few times before it'll take off.

It's probably a good idea to put a fault code reader on it to see what's going on..

Hope this helps

Si

This is great!

Fast response Blueka

How's the difference in ride between the two? Does the Mondeo engine shake? My Ex will "kick" once in a while, what do you think about the SUV vs. Mondeo? Same ride?

my mondeo isn't anything like the Explorer.. it's very car like and the 4x4 system is constant drive to all 4 wheels. It's not an offroad vehicle, more like a subaru impreza style AWD system

Hope that clarifies

Si

As long as you follow the maint'nance schedule...

No this is my first SUV

Follow the maintenance schedule, understand there's a difference between the SUV and the Mondeo (Blueka) and check like Nocturnall says, you should be fine. It sounds like you are just adjusting to the SUV... but there could be issues too. If you've done everything that these guys here say, then you should be fine... also make sure you're using the proper fuel (I know) ;)

(And make sure you change that transmission fluid and go for a service check up if you don't do these things yourself) Let us know

(I should mention that we had a 2dr Honda Civic, the engine never moved... SUV will kick once in while, but runs and idles smoothly!

Curious, I saw someone suggested checking the motor mounts .... and that is the only thing I didn't see you respond to? ... did you check them?

Motormounts ?

I am sorry for asking, but I am not sure where to look for these mounts ?

I will see if the Haynes manual says something about this.

Hi ,

Do you also feel the difference in the steeringwheel between the mondeo and Explorer. The steeringwheel of the explorer moves a little when you don't hold the steeringwheel. Wheels are balanced and alloys are oke. And all four wheels are new (Michelin Lattitude)

I know this has nothing to do with this topic, but I was just wondering.

yeah, funnily enough my wheel does move when I drive, but I'm putting that down to knackered tyres.

My mondeo's taught and completely different to the Explorer, I can take a roundabout at around 70mph in the mondeo.. I'd rollover in the Explorer if I did that :)

Umm...

Some of us don't know where the motor mounts are or what they look like... help us out with a pic or a thread? Thanks!

First of all, it doesn't matter whether its a car or SUV, when it pretains to smoothness of the engine running. If the engine is running rough, its either a fuel or ignition symptom, which nowadays includes computer modules, sensors, etc. Do you have a Service Engine check-Light on ?

Disagree...

Trucks and SUVs make more noise and have more movement than a sedan. Yes, they run smoothly, but the engines do growl, mine does, when it's started and after hitting the gas. Sedans don't growl.

The issue is engine "smoothness", not noise. But, as a matter of fact, the ONLY "noise" difference the same engine whether in a car or a SUV, would be the design of the exhaust system & the degree of sound insulation of the vehicle. My Explorer is quieter than a few cars I've had. An engine doesn't run rougher just because its in an SUV.

Hi,

I was wondering , I have cleaned my IAC valve today. Do I also have to spray electronic cleaner in here (SEE PICTURE) or only on the IAC valve itself ??
