Whenever I go to start my 92 explorer, it starts for a sec, then kinda shutters/shakes and shuts off. I think I hear a knocking noise, but I can't tell. I was thinking it's the timing chain. If anyone can help, I would greatly appreciate it.

does it ever start and run or always jsut dies? my dirty maf on my old truck made it start and then die immediately

It started and ran a couple days ago, but I noticed I had very little power and it was making a weird noise. So, I turned around and parked it. Then, the next day, it wouldn't start at all. It starts now for like a second or two, then shakes and dies.

TAP ON MASS AIRFLOW SENSOR A WHILE CRANKING ENGINE with remote starter button. or have someone else crank it for you. lightly tap it!!! make sure no air leaks around it ,loose bolts, disconnected hoses ect. or if you have another mass airflow try replacing it. make sure you have fuel pressure and adequate spark. need 4 things for it to work spark, fuel, air, compression. check all these and then look into possible mechanical damage.

Ok, I'll do that tomorrow probably. Thanks for the help.

If it is making a loud hissing sound--check the vacuum hose tree on the intake near the brake booster. A hose seems to fall off of the rear of this tree. Very hard to see unless you look close.

Sound like what mine is doing. Mine is blow up (hydrolocked). Is the motor stock? How is your oil pressure.

this is what happened to my explorer. my question is, what happened to my house. i can't find it. so i'd like to know if it was a hose connected to something or was it just a cap.

Sorry--it is just a cap----I stuck a plugged piece of hose on it------easier to do.

Huh thanks for the answer to my question sorry fotr the redundant posts guys
