Saw an older thread on the topic of exhausts get some recent activity, but it's for 5.0. I really want to see what it's like for the 4.0L V6 SOHC specifically. Would love to see some more recent/modern clips and setups and what you guys have noticed! Every thread I'm looking at is just a little too old for me :p

Curious on the cost, sound, feasibility (worth the cost to you?) and anything else you've noticed. I plan on leaving mine alone (pending Christmas bonus though...), mostly just curious on what this looks like for someone in 2023, not 2007. I did see this more recent thread, but not very many clips and not engine specific.
What setup do you have?

I kept things pretty mild when I had my '97 and just replaced everything from the cats/downpipes back. Since I lived in Wisconsin (salty winters) and daily drove my Ex at the time, I wanted stainless. I ran a Walker 21344 Quiet-Flow Stainless Steel muffler and a Walker 46909 Dynomax tailpipe which eliminates the OE-style resonator. RockAuto lists that tailpipe as stainless, but really it's only the tip that's stainless. And since the 2.5" tailpipe is bigger than the muffler outlet, I had to get an adapter (I just got a cheapo off ebay).

I didn't notice any power gain with this setup, likely because the muffler was just as restrictive as OE. I also didn't notice any drone with the resonator delete, but with a larger tailpipe and no resonator, it did sound a little "tougher" at idle. Driving around, I never noticed a difference in sound.

I came close to buying headers at one point, but opted against it because I didn't want to also replace my cats ($$$) which were likely more restrictive than the stock exhaust manifolds. As I understand it, the SOHC breathes pretty well from the factory, especially compared to the 302.

Sorry, I don't have any good pictures or clips.
