Hi all,

Just went to buy a used Explorer, I was looking at a '95 Sport. The salesman kept turning me away from a two door, but that's what I want.
I was looking for a good used Sport, are there any years that seem better then others? or things to look for on a Sport?

My '97 went with the house. I'm sure some of you know what I mean. Sure liked that '97.
Brings a tear to my eye! Oh! Well!
Any thoughts on a SPort would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Hey bud...that's ok. Life goes on. When i first read it, my first thoughts were, "WTF!"
But anyways, i hope you get back into an Explorer soon. I've got a 95 as well, but it's a 4door. It's got 199000kms on it and i'm getting 16.2mpg in the city. Might have to change a few maintenance items when you do get it though. Just a thought.....good luck.
BTW, coming from a foreign country with different proceedings, i cannot understand the "50/50" issue.
Make sure the recalls have been fixed. I know that the 95s have two

- Tie-rod end
- Sway bar links

You'll have to settle for the 4.0OHV, but IMO, i think the OHV is still, by far, one of the most reliable engines. Being a 95, the OHV in there would have had its kinks ironed out, albeit a few minor ones left undiscovered (happens all the time).

The Sport is great, but i find the 4door more convenient. Watch out for the flap that goes behind the rear seats (don't know if the Sports have that). I have a spring loaded metal flap that covers the gap when the rear seats are folded down. Make sure you cover the ends with some door moulding or something. I got a really horrid cut when i was lifting the flap and it decided to snap back down to the floor (i was getting the rods out to lower the tire). Ended up with a piece of meat hanging from my index (EEEEEEEEWWWWWWWW!).
I'd say the tires are probably still Deathstones, so if they are, get new ones quick or get yourself on a waiting list. I got my tires in 3 weeks. Oh....wait.....get the used car salesman to change the tires to the ones you want or NO DEAL! LOL!

If you want it to be quick, get either the 3.73 or 4.10 gears. A huge difference from the 3.08's and such. I would definately go w/ the 2 door faster, cheaper, more agile, and better mileage.

Good Luck
