From what everyone else has said its an awesome kit and really does firm up the shifts. Based on personal experience however, it didnt work for me. Make sure your trans code is one of the ones that is listed as compatible and you should be good to go. Mine isnt in the list, so of course it didnt work :p

You can get a chip burned to firm up your shifts like I did.

is there any change in mpg/performance with the kit? Or is it just for firm shifts.

How firm does it make it? Is it like it jams in to gear, or does it just make it jerk slightly when it shifts, as opposed to shifting super slow and smooth like mine does now :(

Mine jerks hard, but I asked for the hardest possible :p . You can tell them how firm you want it.

Where is the transmission code found? I looked on my door plate and under trans it had only a T. The codes listed on the site were not single letters.... I am lost, does this mean that my transmission isnt one compatible?

If you are having work done to the transmission, then add an internal systems correction kit. Look at the TransGo $30 kits, thay improve all aspects of any transmission.

All 95's were A4LD's yes, or the 4R44E. The 5R55E and 4R70W started in 96 I believe. Good luck,

mine is a 4r55e, but thats not what im wondering. The shift improver only works on certain trans codes (listed underneath the picture on the buy site). My trans code on the door plate says "T"...

Mine said T and didnt work. I bought my b&m kit locally, so when it wasnt working and b&m said to just return it, thats what i did.

As for the chip to increase firmness, im gonna pop for the sct2 flasher so i should be able to set that to exactly how i want :)

The correction kits are really the best single, or first step. There are many factory defects with virtually every transmission Ford has ever made. I don't mean things which warrant a recall, just little odd symptoms which people generally live with. Dealers generally describe all of those symptoms as normal, and most people accept that.

There have always been improvements by manufacturers, year after year, for every transmission. Ford is notorious for creating bad reputations for its automatic transmissions. The problems all originate in first versions of each new tansmission. Once in a while Ford actually crates some dealer fixes, which are applied if a customer complains enough. Check with Ford, and you will discover several Ford upgrade kits for these Explorer V6 automatics.

TransGo continously researches any and all transmission complaints, odd symptoms, etc. They develop kits to correct those deficiencies, without trying to criticize the manufacturers. They simply build them, and make them available through any trans parts outlet.

If TransGo makes an inexpensive kit for you're transmission(about $30-40), then there are symptoms with your transmission which waranted making the kit. That kit will do more for the reliability and driveability, than any electronic gadget, or chip, etc.

No offense intended, but it would always be wiser to attend to internal issues, than to play with just some small characteristic, shift, etc. As expensive as transmissions are to work on, first priority should always be to increase reliability, lifespan, driveability, and not "make the shifts harder." Regards,

I looked but i dont see anything made by trans go for my 4r44e tranny in my 96 4.0L

Isn't the same kit for the 5R55E's also covering the 4R44E"? I don't have my kit box handy to look at it. Chris would remember I'd bet. Regards,

i would assume so...MY transmission says 5r55e and 4r44e on the trans pan, so im guessing that they are very similar if not the same.

Hmm well i hope someone knows. I wouldnt mind tackeling the upgrade myself if it helps things out. I hate the way it shifts now

Yes the shift kits by transGo and Superior cover all 3 of the trannies - 4R44E, 4R55E and 5R55E. I'm with Don in what he said in his above post.

ps. I'll be doing a 5R55E valve body rebuild diary in the near future. (as soon as I get a few A4LD valve bodies out the door).
