Alright, I have a stock 2003 explorer with the 4.0 v6 and reg sized all terrain tires. I'm commuting on the highway to school maybe 80 miles a day 5 days a week. I'm getting killed on the gas!

I have a friend who has a 02 Tahoe with a shift kit, driving it nice he can get 23 in the city.

I was wondering if there's something like this I can do to my explorer that will get me better mileage.

I'm also in a rush most mornings, so I'm usually in the fast line doing a steady 80mph, which I know doesn't help.

Any knowledge or ideas? Please let me know.

Thanks.

the shift kit will just make it shift smoother. Slow it down to 65 mph for the best fuel economy...

wow... me too... is your city down hill at 55 mph both ways? Lol.

I disagree, My wifes 2004 tahoe Z71 averages 23 in the city and 27 on the highway. But it has a computer reprogrammer, cold ar intake, throttle body spacer, performace Mass airflow, headers and exuast. Electric cooling fan from an Cadilac Escalade and a pretty little lady who does not really push the accelerator down very hard very often.

id love to see a 5.3L tahoe get 23 in light to light traffic. i frankly cant believe a word of that.. i drove a single cab short bed 5.3L 4x4 silverado 2007 and was lucky to get 14 in town....and it weights quite a bit less than a tahoe.

Shift kit won't help your MPG but it'll sure make that rush to work funner, I enjoy mine.

Thats a 60% increase.. No way in hell a shift kit would increase fuel mileage to that point. Someone numbers are way over inflated.
