I am a firm believer in quality,Ford became my choice of vehicle after working at a Chevy dealership. Curently I have Four Ford trucks and a 94 Explorer w/387,000 miles on it. I joined this forum because the Explorer finally has a problem it's blowing the EEC maxi fuse. The transmission just started haveing shifting problems. I want to know if there is a connection. I was hoping by talking to othe Ford people that I may gain some knowledge about my Explorer.

Welcome to EF! I'm sure that either through searching threads or the right person sees this you'll find your answer.

Welcome to this forum! I've renamed your thread, and moved it into the transmission section. It sounds like the internal 3 wire harness is shorting against the inside of the transmission. Unplug the 3 prong connector on the driver's side of the transmission, and see if the fuse still blows. Check the connector for continuity or resistance. You have 2 solenoids in the transmission (TCC & 3-4 shift), so you should see 25 - 40 ohms on each solenoid.

Hi Danny, I own a 04 Explorer. I only have 135K on mine, but I am having shifting issues. This is my summary of the situation below:

I had two diagnostics done. My brother n law (ASE certified mechanic) said based on the codes P1780 TCS not set properly or off, and P0735 5 gear ratio incorrect suggested the pcm. Took it to the dealership they stated I need a new solenoid for my tranny for $1055.00. Brother n law disagreed. Service engine light came on today, and went for a follow-up diagnostic at Autozone and code P0193 came up stating several fuel related problems, but the top of the list was PCM. Looked up issues with PCM, shifting problems is one of them, as well as poor fuel economy. I think I found my problem, now just trying to find estimated repair cost. I told this to the dealer they still gave me the shaft about other issues. 2 experts and two computers point to PCM, so why are they telling me a solenoid.
