2008 Ford Explorer EB Edi
Afternoon everyone, OK, shifting issues are the problem. Ive got a 2008 Explorer EB Edition. Got the truck a few years ago from in law, had 24500 miles when I got it, overall great condition. Currently has 60k miles on it.

Symptoms - Roughly 2 months ago, while driving it was shifting oddly, come to a light, it turns green, I hit the gas as I normally would but it wouldnt shift out of 1st, very high RPMs, let off the gas, let the RPMs drop, then I would slowly gas it and it would finally shift. Over the next 2 months its gotten worse.

During the last 2 months, Ive had my friend (a true mechanic with a top of the line scanner) run tests on it. No trannsmission codes ever came up, (he has the scanner for trannsmissions as well). While driving, be could see misfires on #7 , replaced the coil pack, ran fine, retested all codes gone. (I replaced all the spark plugs when the troubles first began) 2 weeks ago, more troubles, another road test and #5 misfiring, replaced that coil pack, good to go, codes all gone. Shifting issues still persist. I took the truck to his trannsmission specialist, they had it for a day, could not find anything wrong with it, no codes ever come up. Today, left work, went about 12 miles and my enging temp skyrocketed to the point I pulled over and let it coo down. (In truck now and it should be cooled down)

Any direction someone can point me in to help solve this issue?

So far checked - never had any leaks
* - fluid levels look good

*This is the "filled for life" transmission so if I can make it to my friends shop he has the tool to check and fill the trans fluid.

Let me know if I missed any info needed to help out diagnosing this issue. Thanks everyone.

Check the bottom of the radiator for leaks. All 06+ models have tons of issues with the radiator leaking at the transmission lines. Other than running out of coolant the only other thing that would make it run hot is a thermostat or cooling fan issue. Nothing with the trans would make the engine run hot.

On the shifting issues I would replace the solonoid pack inside the transmission. It's 95% the time the of the cause for intermittent shift engagement issues.
