shifting problem

i have and 02 explorer,there is a clicking noise coming from behind my glove compartment. my speedometer will say im goin 70 when im really going like 15mph and it doesnt shift right. it slips in and out of gears. but if i unplug the thing that is making the clicking noise my car runs fine. does anyone know what the problem is???????

You could start by telling us what "thing" you are unplugging that is making a clicking noise?

Yes, I'm curious as well. At least describe it. I'm not up on where every part is on later Explorers, but can find out and help.... soo help me help you!

Whazzit look like? Number of wires, etc ?
