2003 4WD XLT
I have a 2003 4 door XLT 4WD that I replaced the factory struts/shocks with KYB KY341327 & KY341326. I seems that it stll rides very rough! I know the 4WD is not as smooth a rider as a car and that it is a truck chassis, but wondered if I missed something in the replacement field that would give a better ride. I looked for Bilsteins but they are not available for this model that I could find.
Thanks for any input!

rancho quicklift loaded...put them in last week...if you can find a way to get them for relatively cheap, go for them

KYB replacements are going to be stiffer than stock; I am not sure what would have made you believe otherwise. Regardless, the coils have more to do with the ride while the shocks are for damping. You can always swap out with a Monroe quick-strut assembly, and they should be about as "smooth" as you are going to get.

I suspected the KYB could be the culprit. I understand the spring rate affects the ride the most, but may try your suggestion of the Monroes. I do not want to use the Rancho as I don't want any lift.
thanks for input. should have gone back to the OEM type replacement.

Same with me on bilsteins they have the right year and drive train but, they are only for sportracs. Whats the difference? Could I use the sport tracs on a regular XLT.

Could I use the sport tracs on a regular
XLT.

Doubt it. The Sport Tracs where more 2nd Gen up to '06, then they where more like 4th Gens. 3rd Gens your stuck.

On a side note, the OEM's are stiff too, and they only last 60k. . .not worth it. Monroes. . .

After talking to two respected shops I have done business with over 20 years, I decided to stay with the KYB. They both concurr that the 4WD will not ride much better, if any with the Monroes and not to go to the expense since these are still fairly new.
