I need to find out how long of shocks I need for a 91 explorer with a 4in lift and a spring over in the rear.

Do you have a tape measure?

Look around at truck shops (4 wheel parts) and see what is offered for your application then if you don't like those take there specs and find shocks that work.

Shocks.

I wish it was that easy for me. I am in the air force stationed on a really small island in the middle of the atlantic, so you can imagine trying to get parts! Thanks anyway!

I was wondering the same thing the other day. Since I have recently done a SOA conversion, I know I could get some better shocks that would allow me to get better articulation out of the rear suspension.

So, I found this link on the internet:
http://www.off-road.com/toyota/travel.html

You need to find the compressed dimensions and extended dimesions of you suspension and then try to match it up to a shock.

I am interested in Rancho 9000x shocks, so I went to their website and found the specs for the 9000x shocks.

The other thing to keep in mind when looking up the compressed and extended specs is that you have to match the mounting specs too.

Good luck!

Check out this thread. Sam's Offroad has a great deal on the 9000Xs and, when ordering from them, just tell them what mods you have and they will send you the correct shocks.

edit: just reread your first post. are you using the stock shock plates in the rear?

I am using the stock shock plates is there a better way? and thanks guys for the links they helped out!
