Should I be offended -- Introduction

Whats up? Just thought I would say "hi". I am the proud owner of a slightly used 2005 Sport Trac and loving it. Its damn nice to be back in an Explorer (had a 92 Eddie Bauer). I love this truck!

Anyway, I was describing my new truck to a friend with a F-150 and he decided to take a little shot at me. As I was describing my truck, his response was, hey, its kind of like a mullet, all business in the front and party in the back. I guess that is kind of true!

So there you have it, my new truck was called a mullet. Should I be offended or just grow a mullet to compliment the truck?

I am looking forward to all your wisdom and keeping this one going longer than my last explorer, which hit 235K before I finally threw in the towel on it.

well, being from Tennessee I'm more shocked to hear you don't already have one (Tennesee Tophat) LOL. Just kidding.

The 4 door + truck bed is one of the best concepts ever. When I was young I hated the look and thought single cab was the way to go but these days, single cabs are for work trucks only.


To me the mullet car would be the "El Camino" hence, the mullet often referred to as the "El Camino Cut"

Being from Pittsburgh, I am in no way offended by mullet references. We consider it a compliment.
I look at it this way, with the bed extender down it's about the same size as a short-bed Ranger. Which is what I had before, only now I have a back seat.
My first Sport Trac was an '05 also. Buy new shocks. Welcome.

The consensus is that explorers come from the factory with crappy shocks and should be changed ASAP and you will be happy with the new ones. I have Rancho RS5000 shocks in my 02.

I got one of these shirts for my boss for Christmas, he has 5 or 6 El Caminos. What part of Tn are you in? We have several Sport Tracers in east Tn.

PS-I wish I could grow enough hair to have the business part of a Mullet.

I live in Franklin, just outside of Nashville. I will drive this ST into the city each day, 50 miles round trip -- so I am hoping gas stays below $3 or I might wish I kept my Toyota Avalon.

Actually, no regrets even if it gets back to $4. I had to get back into a real truck -- mullet or not!

I hear that, for the last 4 years I was driving a mini van (mercury villager) cause my kids were little. A little bigger now and they ride in the back of my trac in their car seats. My son loves the truck.

Mine are digging the back seat of the ST too -- although my son is not heavy enough to ride up front occasionally. My master plan was that my 11 year old gets this truck when he gets his drivers license. We'll see though, I am sure enjoying it.

Its also the perfect height for towing my boat. I put the boat on the bumper (its pretty light, 2500 lbs boat and motor), got the level out, and its perfectly level! I just had to add a 5 flat adapter to the stock wiring.

Already get new shocks at 30K?

I put new ones on mine at 12k after I hit a ripple on the Interstate and got sideways at 70 mph. Monroe Sensa Tracs will be fine but if you tow the boat frequently then get Monroe Reflexes.
