I'm looking at buying a new to me used car and I really like the Sport Trac. Here's the deal. I've got 2 little girls and I'm looking for something that would be easy to get them in and out and very reliable. Is there any major issues with the sport tracs that I should know about before pursuing one? How are they on gas, do they drive well, and are they safe? Any input anyone can give me whould be great. Thank's

I feel comfortable with my little ones in the back. They love riding in it. They do have to climb up into it. My daughter has already discovered she can climb from the cab into the back -- of course we don't do this driving 70 down the highway.

I couldn't find any good safety crash tests. Seems they were content to just test the explorer, and did not test these.

Gas mileage is relative. It does not do as good as the Avalon I have for sale, but its a truck. So far, I am getting high 16s to low 17s.

I love mine. Get one!

I have a 18 month and a almost 4 year old. Easier to strap the kids in then it was in my mini van. The almost 4 year old can get in and out by himself though I dont think thats goig to happen once I lift the truck. Milage is about 17 averaging highway plus city. I have an 02 4x4. With both car seats in the back I still have room for one thin adult.

I moved up to my first Sport Trac in '05 when my kids got too big to fit in the back of my Ranger Ext Cab. MPG is nothing to write home about but it is what it is. You can do some mods to help a little but it won't be a champ no matter what.

Defenitly a good family vehicle. I have a 2003 XLT 4x2 with a K&N FIPK and a Spintech 2.5" In 2.25" Dual out exhaust and get around 22-26MPG depending if I get into the accelerator. I also have a 17month old and a 4 year old and have never had an issue getting them into the Sport Trac.

As for dependibility, I currently have 69,000 miles and it has never seen the shop for anything other that oil changes and basic maintanence.

Sport Tracs are all around the best mid size truck to go in my opinion.:)

I love mine, I have a '04 4x4 XLT Prem. I get about 15-16mpg i have a 7 month old and with him in the back i can still fit 2 adults back their. defenitatly got around great in the winter here in missouri, wouldn't get anything else.

Cause there the Shi** Duh!! lol. No seriously Ive never had a more all around purpose vehicle ever.

Mine served as the primary family vehicle for almost five years, hauling my young daughter around since birth. The wife never complained.

It's for sale now though. Wife wanted something different, but she misses her Sport Trac which is now my daily driver.
