I have 320,000 miles on my 2003 Explorer, with original tranny. Fluid and filter got changed somewhere around 120,000 miles. Haven't done it since, I could come up with a thousand excuses, but it's still not acceptable. I've heard lately from many mechanics that I should still change it now. When I was a young adult working at Jiffylube, we were told not to because it would cause problems (varnish, gunk breaking loose). Now they're saying the new fluids you won't have that problem. It's working fine most of the time, It has slight shutter from 4th to 5th, and once in a while it kinda hesitates going into reverse. Should I go ahead and change it?
