Hey everyone, I discovered corrosion around my thermostat housing and it has started to leak enough that I have a small pool of coolant on top of my engine. Ive ordered a motorcraft thermostat and housing with gaskets and temp sensor. I'll probably tackle the job next week but I'm wondering if I should also replace the water pump. Some recommend replacing this as a maintenance item after 100k mi which I have now passed. Im looking for opinions before I shell out another $120 for a motocraft pump. I'm already at $130 for the factory housing/parts plus a 1/4 in drive torque wrench. I don't want this to be a $250-$300 repair but I also don't want to pull all that stuff out again within months when I could've done it all at once.

Oh yeah and the Explorer is an 07 4.0 XLT advance trac.

I would not, if the water pump is moving the fluid and it's not leaking, leave it. Just my thought. I have 07 4.0 with 121 k miles, and I am not even thinking about replacing water pump just because somebody said something out there :)

That's the direction I was leaning, the pump has never run dry and hasn't give me any trouble. I wasn't sure if it was a part that typically went out after 100k or not. I think I'll forgo switching it out for now. Thanks for the advice.

I all say not as its all A ok without a leak or worn bearing. They can last a lot longer. One in the 2002 Sport went up to 240k km when it was sold with the original pump.

I just changed out the thermo housing, everything else seems to be running fine so far. Thanks for the advice, I start to get paranoid and buy things I don't necessarily need.
