I bought a couple of devices on eBay which plug into your OBDII port to modify your vehicle's performance. One claims to boost gas mileage (green one). The other one claims to boost HP and torque (yellow one). They both claim that over a couple of weeks these devices "learn your driving" and optimize your performance. They also claim that if desired, you can remove the device and your original parameters in the ECU will be restored.

Should I be concerned about trying either of these devices? I only paid $3 each so I won't be upset if I just chuck them in the waste can. There was another person on eBay selling the identical item for $35!

the yellow one, if it does anything at all probably tells the ECU to pump more fuel than it needs... which will result in unburnt fuel in your exhaust and eventually ruin the cats.

I wonder what the Green one does? Hold back on the gas? Run it leaner?

Chuck em. If they worked dont you think Ford would have incorporated it into the system to improve EPA ratings?

NO. Ive seen engines toast themselves shortly after a random ebay device was used. May not be the case here.. but for what it is... I'd steer clear. Remember, you will always get what you pay for.

Money crab scam. Go easy pulling away from dead stops and you'll save loads more money. LOL

I'm an electrical engineer and designed electronic equipment for over 40 years. I think I'll take one apart and see what I find. They are definitely not resistors changing the calibration of the mass air sensor. They interface with the ECU via the OBDII port. For $6 for the two, I can afford to have a little curiosity and fun.

I'm curious! Please let us know what you find

did you open them up and see whats inside..... most of these cash grabs do nothing and connect nothing except the snake oil sensor in your butt dyno

They are presently on a slow boat from China (free shipping - I can't complain). It will be a while before I get them. I'll let you know what I find.

I can't see them doing anything to improve, I've heard of guys remapping their ECUs for better engine performance but that's more power not gas mileage. A family friend had a 3/4 ton pickup full size cab, 8ft box and 4wd and could still spin all the wheels off the line with a remapped ECU. Was not EPA compliant lol
