1993 Explorer 4x4
Hey guys, new to the forum and explorer scene but I plan on sticking around for a while. I have terrible luck with cars (my current dd is burning excessive oil after I put 1200 into the suspension and engine maintenance) so I picked up this 93 4x4 Explorer from my friend for $700.

He has owned it for the past 3 years only putting about 10k miles on it, leaving it at almost exactly 213k. He used it as his daily but he never had to drive much as you can tell, and he also used it as his audio truck as you will later see..It was originally a dark green, the previous owner repainted it himself 2 years ago. The roof is reinforced with I believe 3/4 inch plywood, as well as the tailgate and floor of the trunk for sound deadening. The front door panels are fitted with custom fiberglass to hold 2 10" voice speakers each, and the rears are fitted to hold 1 6.5" speaker and 1 4". Oh and it has a 250A alternator.

The tranny I am told has been swapped to one with approx. 100k miles on it, the heater core is new as well as quite a few other minor parts.

Onto my plans:
I plan to do a bunch of common maintenance that these vehicles need over the years as well as some custom work! More updates to come...but for now here is how she sits. (new larger rims/tires off a jeep cherokee are waiting to be put on, just waiting on my wheel spacers to arrive)

So far I know the ABS and heat work awesome! The 4x4 sounds like it engages but I have yet to test it. My first plan of attack is the cluster, the other day I went over a bump and all of my dash lights went out. Hopefully it is just a plug under the dash, and I want to re-wire the fog lights and try to get those working (apparently there are already green HID's in them..hmm).

There is also an occasional wobble from what feels like the front driver wheel, need to get this thing on a lift soon to give her a good look over.

Welcome , Looking forward to seeing or hearing about the audio setup in it , The first gen X with the ttb front end normally wears out wheel bearings pretty easily, so that could be your wobble , also , they tend to eat tie rods if the alignment is not kept up with , Looks and seems like a pretty good rig so far , looking forward to more progress from it ! .

Thanks, will get more pics once I clean it up. New wheels going on tomorrow so I'm pretty happy about that. Sick of these tiny car wheels lol

Those wheels look like stock 14" Ranger wheels to me .

That's exactly what they are but they look so silly in these big wheel wells! Talk about tipping hazard lol..

yeah I figured they might have been 14"s , Bigger tires would make it better , but still wouldn't fix the looks of them lol

Haha yeah, u-g-l-y. Putting stock square body cherokee wheels and tires on it tomorrow with 1.5" hubcentric spacers because they didn't clear the brakes

I don't think the cherokee stock wheels will fit over the stock 4x4 auto locking hubs , but maybe the older ones might . make sure you try before you buy , or at least do some measuring first

Nice looking truck. I like the look of the square body style.

Be Cautious of that Member ^ The Demon , He is a Troll . Likes to follow me around and try and post to get attention , best is to ignore him

There's no need to bash me. I'm here to use the forum like any other member.

There was no bashing in my post , it was simply a warning to the Original poster of this thread ...

All I did was post that I like the members truck. Reminds me of one around my way back in the day. It had a built 5.0 in it and was the coolest truck around.

Well thanks guys, the wheels fit great with the spacers, they were off of some guys square body cherokee but who knows if they were stock for that vehicle. Next up is getting some rear shackles to replace my rotted old ones (warrior 153's seem to be a crowd pleaser).

What should I do to get an even lift in the front, since the warriors give about a 1.25" rear lift? Some sort of spacer above the front springs?

Pics will be up tomorrow! Too dark for any now.

Damn winter..go to work in the dark and come home in the dark :( Here is a quick pic, they are dirty but look much better than the last set. You can see a part of my rhino lined roll pan and fenders in this one as well.

Cool. I like the pin stripes. The wheels are not bad looking.

The hood and trunk have some designs on them, I will get pics of that eventually. I have never been much of a fan of pin striping but it doesn't look too bad.

at least those wheels look the right size on there compared to the 14"s lol

Yes lol, I wish they were wider but with the spacers they don't look too shabby. I plan on putting some 22" rims on it but for now these will do just fine. The previous owner had it on glossy black 22's and it looked great.
