Shudder between shifts

Hey guys, I need some help here. I just recently had my transmission rebuilt about a month ago. It's a 5r55w in a 2002 4x4 Explorer. I have noticed that between shifts, it shudders very obviously. Also, sometimes when you put it into reverse, there is a long pause before it engages. I took it today to the tranny shop that rebuilt it, and we could barely imitate the problem. He is telling me that it's a characteristc of the tranny. I told him that I do not think that it should do that, should shift smooth and solid. So what could it be? This was a complete rebuild that cost $1800 bucks.

shuddering is not a characteristic of any tranny that I know of,I would go back to the shop and first ask what type of fluid they put in it.Most fords use and need Merck 5 fluid because it has additive in it for shuddering.My 96 started shuddering in and out of OD, then all gears.Changed fluid and filter and fixed the problem.
