Shutter at high speed...

I have noticed lately that my 94xlt shutters at highway speeds (60-70). I consider this an emergency b/c the shutter is getting more pronounced. I feel it mostly in the steering wheel and in the brake/acceleration pedal, along with below my feet on the driver side. I have noticed that when I press on the brake at high speeds the shutter increases with strenght but not frequency. Could my brake rotors be warped? The truck has 184000+ miles and the steering is a bit loose. The ball joints were replaced about 25000 years ago. I put the truck on a lift and the tie rods are not loose... any ideas what the problem could be? The truck also needs new front shocks (bounces), could this be the cause of the problem? if it shudders harder on the brake, the rotors are probably warped... its common for any vehicle to have a vibration @ around 70 mph.... especially trucks

Thanks for the quick responses! How do I know if the rotors are warped? I had the truck aligned about 4 months ago and I have oversized BFgoodrich All-Terrain that are in great shape...31inch I believe. The front wheel bearings, both outer and inner were replaced 15 months/15k ago. Thanks for the info.

I dont know of any easy way to check for warped rotors but with a lift and bigger tires the rotor wear out faster. I would recommend just replacing the rotors especially if they are the original rotors.

Usually when rotors are warped you feel a pulsation in the brake pedal when you hit the brakes farily hard at high speed. Pulsation should go away as soon as you let off the brake.

Got in the truck tonight after work and I heard popping sounds from the front, while turning and while driving straight...any ideas?

Talk to Albino94LTD I think he has tried about everything at this point.
We get to see if his new lift spring packs will eliminate it soon enough.......

Of course you should listen to everyone else and not my drunken self.
'Tis best to eliminate the mechanical crap 'fore attributing it to the notorious shake.
