Hi everyone,
Alright the vehicle in question is actually a 2001 ford escape. We've got an inclined driveway, and putting my daughter in the car seat constantly is a pain, the door never stays open. It always catches you just as you lean in to put the child in the car seat. Assuming most car doors from ford are similar, is there any way to adjust the closing tension? I'm sick of getting the door right at the back of the knee! Please help!

well I dont know if they have changed the design but on my 88 BII its a simple bent piece of steel that sits in the hinge, when you open it the hinge rides against this "spring" and holds it open. The drivers side quit working years ago and last week I re-hung the door. I found this sucker no longer made contact for one reason or another.
I hit it with a BFH a few times to bend it a little more that stock and now it holds the door open better than ever!

Problem is getting the doors off can be a PITA!!!, getting to the hinge itself is difficult on some Ford, on the Explorer youhave to remove the dash!
On my BII you have to remove the fenders, unless you have fiberglass like I do, then you dont have to do anything.....

GO check out the Escape with a flashlight, that will give you an idea of whether or not you can access the hinge bolts

Cool, thanks 410. These doors drive me nuts... otherwise I love the car... Not the same as my truck, but its still a ford.

I'm just glad they didnt name it the Bronco III. The Bronco II was bad enough!! I mean bronco's are tough as nail heavy duty trucks right?

Not the BII, I mean dont get me wrong I loved mine even stock but they are WEAK compared to the fullsize and EB, in stsock form.
THank god they have a strong frame and a decnet body....I like the Escape's would make a great DD!!!

Yeah, nothing like the '77 bronco. I've actually got a 'bronco fund' that I put money I get for birthdays, xmas, etc into! One of these days....
