Don't do it. It WILL, not maybe, not it may possibly, IT WILL make your rims turn all green and crappy.

Please tell me...

Please tell me that you or someone you know has done this and that you have pictures... please...

The sides pipes will look cool, but they will turn your rear wheels different colors, especially if you have polished aluminum wheels. Back in '97 Ford put the side exhaust pipe right before the right rear wheel on the F-150's. This caused the center cap of the rear wheel to oxidize and turn an ugly green color.

Lowdpypes,

sorry, but I have no pictures, and I certainly haven't done this because I know the consequence. You'll just have to trust crossman and I, it WILL make the wheels turn green, that is, unless you're some kind of mad scientist who can formulate some kind of spray you can put on your wheels to prevent the exhaust gases from ruining your wheels.

Sorry man, I know how it feels when an idea just won't work like you want it to, but thats just the way it goes sometimes. :)

These things have been around for a bazillion years..... I've never seen anyone buy a second set.......

OTOH, it's your money. However, I gloat like crazy when I get to say "I tol' ya so...".

Just a thought...

Do you really think that it would hurt my rims... I have my truck washed every Monday so, if I did install this, do you really think that the exhaust would have a chance to penetrate the wheels? I could see if you went a long time without washing but what if you didn't? I don't know, just a thought....

I see all the new Rousch Mustangs have side exhausts with their bada$$ 18" chrome rims???

i say don't do it 'cause they are asthetically horrible. and who's to say that the mufflers are any good and won't rust out quickly or sound like crap. if you want side exhaust go have it custom bent with 40 or 50 series flowmasters, so at least it will sound good and you can get it to look the way you want.

I have seen many '97 F-150s with the side exhaust that have ruined the aluminum center caps and have made the lug bolts rust out rather quickly on that wheel right behind the exhaust pipe. I think that this is why Ford put the exhaust pipe back behind the wheel after the '97 model F-150's.

One idea that you could do is get dual outputs, but have one on each side, but behind the wheels. I know that it won't look as good as a set of side pipes, but it still looks cool.

It's possible that the discoloration is due to the heat produced rather than the engine exhaust itself.

Exhaust, even in properly maintained, properly functioning is chock full of bad stuff as well as other stuff that reacts with air or sunlight or moisture (or any combination) to make more bad stuff. It will discolour stainless steel, destroy aluminum and rot a fender off in no time flat.

Decision made, thread ended... hehe

Thanks everyone... sometimes discouragment is best for the situation. I am learing away from this and going with some 40 series and throwing the whole side pipes concept out the window. Thanks everyone. (starting my Saleen Mountaineer Project soon...)
