No purpose, just looks. I know on 2nd gens some have holes behind them, but not sure on 1st gens.

yeah i looked and there are just some tiny holes for screws for extra support. well, thx for ur reply, they're comin off tonight!

realize there will be a lot of little holes left in the doors, a lot of good 1/4" sized holes... if not sealed up, they will harbor water and rust the bottom of your doors..... especially if you go wheeling in a river....

Rust is not good. And don't fill holes in with Bondo -- doesn't work...build it up with welding.

pulling the boards will leave a bunch of little 1/4" holes... if they are not properly filled with new metal or sealerd up properly they will facilitate rust.....

LOL, yeah stay away from those. :banghead:

I bought some plastic plugs from ford, and hurculined them in.

If you look REALLY close you can see them on the rocker panels.

if you herculine them alone it will block out the water. I have had my rockers off for a while now and havent had any rust appear.

the holes arent really that noticable, and my X didnt come with side skirts, and there really hasnt been any rust problems, holes have been out in the weather for 14 years
