  1. In addition, these people were serious about purchasing the ARB if it had been made and to the best of knowledge have not bought a Powertrax:

I'll let Wolfgang answer these questions.

I can not believe, but it looks like nobody is interested to buy a front locker for the 2nd generation Explorer. If so, we certainly do not build this locker.

I think the problem is there have been so many people that have tried to sign up and be a part of a design group, but they always fall short.
C'mon people, if you want a locker, say so.

Wolfgang, interest is not the problem, broken promises to all of us that own 95+ Explorers and subsequent distrust is the problem. This has been true for several modifications especially lockers and suspension kits.

You yourself made the following post on this website on 7-10-2002, nearly a year ago:

7-10-2002:
"The lockers are already made and availible for all years of the Explorer !"
"The price is 849$ including shipping to the US, if you order 10 at a time !"
"Yes we have a locker for the 95 -02 Explorer !"

You told us you had them available for sale a year ago. Then when some of us emailed you and couldn't get a straight answer and were reluctant to send that much money to an overseas company, you finally posted five months later on 12-17-2002:
"We will make your locker in 2003. Check our homepage and send a mail if you are willing to buy. We try to make them as soon as possible"

Which got you more interest and subsequent emails wherein you promised to have one out by May of this year. That got my attention and I personally emailed you early this year and I told you that I would buy the first U.S. one and test it on three different famous U.S. fourwheeling areas across the country this summer with a full writeup on its performance, letting you know that would surely result in many sales off of this one website alone.

Once I actually made a firm commitment to that locker you promised by May, I never heard from you again. As a result I had to purchase a NoSlip and make the modifications to my 4auto system that I did not want to have to do, but I had to, because you did not do what you said you would. I gave your money to another company that DID produce a locker, though I wanted yours much more so because it is selectable. So you have already lost one sale.

By saying nearly a year ago that you already had them available, then backing off and promising them by May of the next year, then changing your story again now that May has come and gone and asking for interest now and saying that you may "certainly not build this locker" depending on what replies we make to this thread, you are giving the impression that you are being less than truthful with your product. That makes it very difficult for you to get a response and people are going to be reluctant to respond until they actually find out what is really going on.

There is a market for a selectable locker in a 95+ Explorer. The owners are not the problem; finding a manufacturer that will really make one is.

Just want to see this bigger and in bold text.

Locker is not the only issue. Lift systems, lockers, differential parts, bumpers... and we can go on and on. I don't think it's necessary. As far as I know every group purchase so far has been a success... I think there are people interested in buying upgrades for their Explorers... sometimes it seems though that "we" end-up paying more for upgrades because these parts have to be specially designed and made strictly for us... but Jeeps get all the attention anyway... even Cherokees...

It´s not a broken promise.
I told you we need 30 customers before we start the production. The locker is ready for production but until today we are still waiting for 30 ore more serious inqiries. We do not need money in advance. The lockers have to be paid when they are ready to ship.
The production of a locker cost a lot of money and we have to make sure the money comes back. For the first production run we have to make 100 units and i do not like to spend the money for these 100 units if we can not see enough interest.
There are other groups waiting for a locker and we have to make the decission which comes first and next.

So let´s try it again!

We are indeed a relatively small market and you will not immediately sell 100 units, but you will sell them. The previous ARB locker thread that you posted on asked for 75 and we only got a couple dozen serious replies and stopped adding to the list at 17 if I remember correctly. Others expressed interest later but I quit updating the list. I have received info that makes me believe that Powertrax has certainly sold over 30 so far, and like me, most of us who did buy one would have preferred yours instead. But the market is a lot bigger than just this one website. There are many Ford Ranger owners that will be interested in this, and in addtion, we found out from ARB that our front differential and the one on Dodge Durangos are so similar that a locker made for one will work for the other with one minor change, so you are looking at a market encompassing two different makes and four different models (Explorer, Sport Trac, Ranger, Durango) spanning at least a seven year period of production. That's a big market.

As time has gone on, there are now at least as many '95+ owners that like to fourwheel their Explorers as there are early model 91-94 owners, and I'll bet that ARB has sold a lot more than 100 units that fit 91-94 Explorers.

There may be a lot of people that have gotten fed up and don't want to reply yet again to another survey thread since they have done it countless times before for this and other products to no avail. And it didn't help matters that you said you already had one available when you didn't. But that does not mean that they will not buy one once it becomes available. They will buy it.

What was that saying.....

If you build it they will come!

Wolfgang, it's your call, but I believe that you do have a market.

Good luck.

Thanks Rob

I will rename this thread topic slightly and stick it up top for you to see what response will occur. In addition, I would also assume that those who responded to the ARB thread and have not bought a Powertrax could be counted on to buy yours. I edited Dre's first post to list those who responded to this thread so far.

Well, this is obviously misleading. You stated that your do have a locker, it's already made and you only need 10 orders to get your "special pricing". When did it become 30 lockers?

I won't buy one right now because I don't have the money saved, but I will buy one in the not too distant future. That's assuming you are the first company to make one.

On a side note, I have been determined to buy a selectable rear locker from the same company that finally makes a selectable front locker for our 2nd gen Explorers. So if you do make one for the front, you have a sale for the rear also. I get the feeling that I am not alone when it comes to wanting to match things from the same company. So not only would you be able to sell the front lockers in time, there is a good chance that it will also help increase sales of your locker for the 8.8. Just my 2 cents...
